About the artwork

The artists produced works in Juji Village in 2003 and have been involved with the village over the last five years. Their works, born from the wish to “let this interaction leave in a form,” were a series of benches placed in the front yard of each house of the village. “Public access” stands for the dialogue that begins from sitting down on those benches. Initially villagers were rather uneasy about “placing a work at home.” Having seen the artists at work, however, they started saying, “if you like, please put one at my place, too,” and up to 40 were placed.
