Information

About the artwork

A local artist from Niigata. This exhibit represents a further development of the artist’s 2006 exhibit “Yuyama House” in which he renovated an old home by incorporating elements of the local environment. Outside the house, the artist added a wooden frame “device” and, inside the house, installed lasers to create a “Room of Light”. While the wooden frame seen from the outside is square, both vertically and horizontally, the scene captured by the frame looking out is slightly skewed, upsetting the viewer’s sense of balance. The locations of both new features were chosen to enable the viewer to see Yuyama and the surrounding landscape from a fresh perspective.
