About the artwork

“For a little while, something is wrong with the tatami chair that I have been using for a long time. The metal part is bent and deteriorated and is cracking, or rather splitting open and it will come to the end of its life in a few days. As it was uncomfortable to be seated, I keep thinking I should get a new tatami chair while I search for documents on the Niiza area. Hang on, it is connected. An artwork occasionally is triggered by this kind of divine revelation. This must be it. It will be a story of two characters, Niiza and a new tatami chair. I think I will begin my creation by bringing this deteriorated chair to Niigata and placing it in the tatami room.” (Excerpts of the artist’s comment)
