About the artwork

The artist had visited Echigo-Tsumari three years earlier and vividly remembered the rice fields of this region. Thinking that she would want to gently wrap the people working in the rice fields, she re-learned about their work in different seasons and designed new work clothes, incorporating people’s feeling towards agriculture. She held study groups with people of the Kaino area and developed new work clothes designs. Participants’ passions were dyed and embroidered over the fabric. They became heart-warming work clothes filled with the charm of the community.
