About the artwork

A thatched roof house three hundred years old still stands in Tanokura village. On the ground floor, the woven straw mats are removed and the ceiling raised to revitalize the room. Using as much of the space as possible, works are displayed on folding screens. Here the artist has depicted robust human life and flesh in paintings done over six months. In the natural light flowing into the tranquil atmosphere of the vacant dwelling the vivid hues of the mineral pigments are suspended. Upstairs has been remodeled into a white cube displaying a selection of photographs on the theme of everyday lives of mothers and daughters.
