About the artwork

While working with the local village and researching on the issue of abandoned houses which is a prevalent issue in this region, the artists discovered a large abandoned house which had been sitting empty for nearly 30 years. The name of the house – called “yago” in Japanese – was written as “Horaike”. This art project aims to connect the artists’ own homes and ateliers outside of Echigo-Tsumari with this abandoned home. In the space, reformed as an atelier and resting space, the past works of the artists are exhibited.
