About the artwork

The theme of this work is food. During the exhibition, dishes by Mitsuko Fukutake and Chef Nagashima lit by a miniature lightbulb seemed to float in a pitch black room. The entire interior of a renovated private home — including the bedroom, bathroom, and toilet—was painted with black India ink. An condensed mass of over a 1,000 pieces of cookware seemed to float about the hearth room. Each of the cooking utensils had been used to maintain the daily life of the local villagers. The wood painting by Naoyoshi Hikosaka hanging on the wall was intended to “change ‘how we value art’”.

[Owner: Mitsuko Fukutake / Chefs: Hiroki Nagashima, Youichi Kishida, Kuniaki Arima / Textile design: Akira Minagawa / Lighting design: Masahide Kakudate / Garden design: Ryoji Fujiwara]
