About the artwork

The themes of this work were air and weather. The artist visited Tokamachi for the first time in the spring of 2005. She was deeply impressed by the snow-covered houses which had no access to roads, and tried to create works which promoted an awareness of climatic conditions at the global level. From across the world, the artist selected 12 places which had severe weather conditions such as thunder, storms, sandstorms, rain, snow, extreme temperatures, aridity and strong wind; and the meteorological data were translated into signals to drive digital sound, scent and light generators. In accordance with specific weather conditions, 25 different piano chords were activated. The artwork allowed visitors to experience the transience of weather.
