About the artwork

During his first visit to Koshirakura, the artist received a strong impression from the quiet environment of this mountain village and this gave him a hint for his work. For the thematic exhibition, a night sky full of twinkling stars was expressed using bamboo and balls. The outdoor exhibition used ropes to express the root of trees. Although ikebana often uses the tip of branches, there is also a trunk to hold the branches and, beneath it, the roots to support the trunk. The artist presented the root of the earth that nurtures plants.
