About the artwork

It was about one year after the Great Chuetsu Earthquake when the artist visited Koshirakura for the first time. At that time, temporary housing had been set up in the area and in Koshirakura, aquariums for breeding carps had been cracked, serving as reminders of the earthquake. During his visit in May, the artist saw snow remaining all over the place. After numerous visits, having grasped the state of the community and sensing the nature of snow country, the artist solidified his plan to create an arrangement featuring “bamboo and water.”
