About the artwork

The mulberry trees planted throughout the village tell the history of sericulture that used to be the livelihood of the Yomogihira villagers. However, since that tradition has become extinct, the mulberry fields have gradually disappeared. There used to be many families living in this village, and it used to be full of energy and life. The artist chose mulberry branches that had been in the village community as his material to bring back memories of the big family that was now gone. The mulberry branches form a soft arched shape, as if to gently cocoon something invisible. A talk session by the artist was held also held during the Triennial.
