About the artwork

To prevent ceremonial tea bowls from being covered with kindling ashes, they are placed into clay vessels called saggars and fired. The “Tea Room of Darkness” where straw and kindling are stored is covered with tea bowls and saggers fired by the kindling. The tea bowls and saggers transform the straw room into a tea room.
