"Chikei" by Tetsura Yuu

Summary

A buto performance embracing the surroundings and presented in the “Memory of the Earth 2022” by Uchida Haruyuki. Everything from the distinctive movement of farming, and wind blowing in the mountain to grass, trees, and rain becomes an element of dance. In contrast to classic ballet which attempts to reach high by stretching up, Ankoku Buto takes lower postures, trying to be closer to the ground. By transforming respect and longing for people living on earth into dance, this performance expresses respect for the local people and their wisdom.
