【2026Winter】Matsudai “NOHBUTAI” Field Museum 

Summary

From January to March, the Field Museum is covered with pure white snow. Enjoy seasonal art, community experiences, and snow activities at the Field Museum, which is hard to imagine from spring to fall when even the roads are gone.


1、Artworks with Snow

*The Winter Field Museum Ticket includes admission to Matsudai NOHBUTAI and Matsudai History Museum. From March 9 onward, the common ticket cannot be used for admission.

2、Events region experience

Dondoyaki(Burning of New Year's gate decorations)

In the Echigo-Tsumari region, each village holds a koshogatsu event during the Chinese New Year (around January 15). A tower made of straw is burned to predict the year’s rice crop.

Snowshoeing (walking)

Put on your “kanjiki,” a snow walking folk tool, and head out to the Field Museum, which is closed to the snow. Enjoy a different view of Matsudai Castle from spring to fall.

3、Snow amusement park

A snow amusement park will appear where visitors can experience snow tubing and banana boats on a natural incline, and hand-pushed sleds for the little ones. When you get tired, you can make coffee by a bonfire, roast rice cakes on a seven-wheeled stove, or enjoy other activities on the snow.

Snow Tubing

Let’s slide down the huge slope at once with snow tubes! You can also play with hand-pushed sleds and snow boards.

Banana boat

Ride on a banana boat for an exhilarating ride through the snow. One free ride with a common ticket or a special exhibition ticket. ※¥100  from the second time.

Hand-pushed sledges and snow boards

You can enjoy riding and pushing a cute sled.
