We will be screening a film in which Nobuo Onishi travels across the country to explore the craftsmanship of traditional artisans. A talk event featuring Nobuo Onishi and Tashima Seizo will follow the screening.

Nobuo Onishi

Born in 1968. Hails from Ikeda Town, Gifu Prefecture. Graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography and studied under photographer and film director Seiichi Motohashi. Became independent at the age of 29. He subsequently worked as a freelance photographer. He began covering villages across Japan that were to be submerged by dams, starting with Tokuyama Village in Gifu Prefecture, which was caught up in the construction of Japan’s largest dam.His work also features patients undergoing long-term hospitalization in psychiatric wards, the Great East Japan Earthquake, facilities for people with disabilities, and artisans—all rooted in the theme of “food, clothing, and shelter.” He also produces documentary films. He received the 2025 Japan Photographic Society Award. Currently, his activities include magazine serials, film production, and writing.

For this edition of the Kitagawa Fram School, we are pleased to welcome Ukrainian filmmaker and artist Dana Kaverina, who will be visiting Japan for the first time in September 2026. During her visit, Ms. Kaverina plans to screen several of her artworks—including her latest work, *Gray Land*, which focuses on the war in Ukraine—in various locations, and she will be staying at “Noto Suzu House,” a residency facility established in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, an area affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
