workshop For families

We’ll make a pot holder using rice straw. You’ll shape it by weaving the straw little by little around a round straw core. Since this is a relatively simple form of straw craft, it’s perfect for beginners. Why not try making your very own pot holder while experiencing this traditional craft?

All materials will be provided. Since you’ll be working while seated on tatami mats, please wear comfortable clothing, such as pants that allow you to sit cross-legged easily. Please note that rice straw debris may get on your clothes. We appreciate your understanding.

The “Hachi & Seizo Tashima Museum of Picture Book Art” embodies an art space designed to empower all living things, conceived by artist Seizo Tashima as a “Museum Where Living Things Emit an Aura.” This is the second installment of the “Aura of Life” workshop series, where participants listen to the voices of the creatures in Hachi’s works.We’ll be joined by biotope expert Hiroyuki Terada (KOKOPELLI+) to observe the many living creatures that call the museum home.
