Starting with kajii’s instrument-making workshops and performances, the museum will host interactive artworks and remain open until nightfall for a special evening event. ■kajii Musical Instrument Making Workshop

We’ll use empty cans to make a magical instrument called the “Spring Can.” Bring your instrument to the concert so we can play together!

■kajii's Everyday Object Instrument Concert: "Tableware Sings"

Dishes, empty cans, basins, plastic bottles… Instruments that produce surprising sounds have been created from everyday objects. With plenty of interactive performances, get ready to enjoy an overwhelming dose of “everyday” entertainment!

A musical duo consisting of Kumama and Sō. Driven by their desire to “make music and instruments more accessible,” they have created over 200 types of everyday-object instruments and use them to perform music.Centered around their original instrument, the “Shokkin”—which features an arrangement of rice bowls, noodle bowls, and tea cups—the music they produce from items like washbasins, empty cans, plastic bottles, and empty candy boxes has been highly acclaimed. Based in Nagoya, they have performed at over 1,000 shows across Japan. They published *“You Can Do It at Home! kajii’s Mysterious Handmade Instruments”* through Yamaha.Incidentally, both members are fathers.

■Night Market

From gourmet food to caricatures! A diverse lineup of unique vendors will bring the festival to life. Come enjoy MonET’s very first “Night Market.” The rest area will also be open (4:00 PM–9:00 PM).

We’ll introduce the vendors as soon as they’re confirmed.

■MonET's Waterside Festival: Nighttime Playground Opens

On this day only, the play area will be open until 9:00 p.m. There are many interactive artworks that both adults and children can enjoy.

We are holding a special evening opening at MonET.

Waterside ENNICHI in MonET

This is a hands-on exhibition that offers fun for everyone from children to adults. Visitors can admire artworks floating on the pond, and a festival is held in the community space on weekends. The corridors feature interactive installations such as a maze, while artworks that respond to sound and the breeze add color to the space. At night, the illuminated displays create a different atmosphere from that of the daytime. Additionally, workshops led by participating artists are scheduled to take place.

Let’s make “Kitchen Lithographs" with artist Kinukawa Yasunori, using chocolate, aluminum foil, and coca-cola.

Experience a mysterious printing technique that takes advantage of the repulsion between water and oil, using items found in the kitchen! You can print 2 to 3 sheets using the same plate within the allotted time.

It’s back again this year! We’re holding the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Field Day” at the NUNAGAWA Campus. Everyone is welcome to participate—from children to adults—regardless of nationality, age, or background. It’s a festival where you can fully immerse yourself in the nature, history, and cuisine of Echigo-Tsumari through art.

[Running on September 13 and October 25] JIKU #013 HOKUHOKU-LINE

"JIKU" is a series of projects that uses light to express the regional axes—as well as the axes of Point of View and history—that have been obscured by urban development and changes in the landscape.This artwork is set at Misashima Station on the Hokuetsu Express Hokuhoku Line. Using the tracks of the Hokuhoku Line—which has fostered new connections within the region since its opening in 1997—the artwork expresses the value and energy of connecting one place to another. Lighting installations positioned at the front and rear of a special train illuminate the straight tunnel in sync with sound. This is an experiential artwork that can only be viewed by passengers aboard the special train.

"Australia House" Summer Landscaping Maintenance 2026

In the garden of Australia House, there is an artwork called the “Gardening Project.” While work on the project—except during spring and fall—is usually carried out with residents of the local Urada district, we’ve decided to invite adults from the general public to join us this time. Let’s work together—discussing the garden, plants, and the differences between the flora of Kanagawa and Tsumari—and then enjoy some tea afterward.

[NUNAGAWA Campus] Ayumi Tsuchiya’s “Spinning Xylophone Craft” Workshop

We’ll cut wooden rods to create musical notes and make a xylophone. Assemble it with string, roll it up for storage, and when you unfold it, you can play it—or hang it on the wall as a tapestry. Create your own unique design and take it home with you.
