Since 2017, the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Field” has been collaborating with “Oisix,” the food delivery service operated by Oisix, Inc., which specializes in safe and reliable agricultural products, processed foods, meal kits, and more.
This time, Oisix’s signature product—“Refreshing and Toasty Barley Tea Made with 100% Domestic Rokujo Barley”—has been revamped through a collaboration with Asai Yusuke, an artist participating in the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Field.”
The packaging features a beast carrying the bounty of the earth. The artistic style is reminiscent of the mural ≪physis≫ at the Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET. The illustration was created using paint mixed with barley—a byproduct of the barley tea manufacturing process. This packaging subtly conveys a spirit of cherishing every part of the ingredients without waste.

Asai Yusuke
Born in Tokyo in 1981. Painter. An artist who creates paintings with unrestrained freedom, both indoors and outdoors, using a variety of materials such as earth and water, stone and fire, tape, and pens.On Inujima in the Seto Inland Sea, he creates artworks by using the island’s soil and granite as supports and applying a technique in which he burns white rubber onto the surface while listening to the energy inhabiting the site—from the voices of ancient times to those of yesterday. Since 2013, he has been transforming his artworks by allowing them to expand and evolve, incorporating the natural effects of aging.

“A single tiny seed is carried by the wind and falls onto the soil; rain falls, it sprouts, and it stretches toward the light. Eventually, leaves grow, flowers bloom, and fruit forms. Sometimes insects or animals may come to eat it, or the seed might cling to their fur and be carried away. Thinking that our own act of eating is part of this beautiful cycle, I painted a picture of a beast that boldly carries the bounty of the earth.”
① Meticulously Selected Ingredients
The ingredients consist of just two types: domestic Rokujo barley and groundwater from the Southern Alps. We use only barley that has been grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
② The “Sand Kiln Roasting Method,” Preserved for Over 80 Years Since Our Founding
The skillful artisans at the manufacturer, “Kawahara Flour Mill,” deliberately roast the barley to create uneven roasting patterns. This allows you to enjoy a deep, complex flavor that blends sweetness, bitterness, and a toasty aroma.
③ Aluminum Bottle
Its heat-retaining properties make it ideal for carrying around during hot weather.
