The 750-meter-long Kiyotsu Gorge Tunnel, located in Kiyotsukyo Gorge—one of Japan’s three great gorges—was completely renovated by Chinese architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects for the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2018.”The spatial design incorporates the five natural elements—trees, earth, metal, fire, and water—and the breathtaking views from the mirror-finished panoramic station are truly spectacular. Mitama Fudōson
Surrounded by the mist of the waterfall and lush greenery, the temple grounds offer a peaceful retreat for visitors. The principal deity, Fudō Myōō, is believed to protect against fire and water disasters and bring good fortune, and has been revered by local people for centuries. In summer, the temple bustles with worshippers seeking relief from the heat and tourists enjoying the scenery of the moss-covered stone steps and waterfall. [Open daily]

Akiyamago Ketto Onsen: Katakuri House – Check-in
Akiyamago is the collective name for 12 villages scattered throughout the mountainous regions of Niigata and Nagano, and it has been selected as one of “Japan’s 100 Hidden Gems.” Katakuri House is located at the entrance to this area. The surrounding landscape features terraced Rice Fields built with stone walls, and from Mikura Bridge, you can fully enjoy the clear waters of the Nakatsugawa Valley.You can also enjoy the natural scenery throughout the four seasons, including vast fields of katakuri flowers resembling a purple carpet, a star-filled sky, and mountains colored by autumn foliage.

In Tsunan town, where people have lived continuously since the Jomon period, wild mountain vegetables and mushrooms are harvested from the mountains, while delicious rice and vegetables are grown using spring water and fertile soil. We welcome you with heartfelt, homemade dishes so you can fully savor the bounty of Tsunan’s land. Please enjoy the rich flavors of the season and the local sake.

A hub facility for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Field. The building was designed by Hara Hiroshi+ATELIERΦ, the firm behind the Kyoto Station Building and other projects. It features 15 permanent Echigo-Tsumari Art Field artworks by artists from Japan and abroad, on display year-round, and hosts Special Exhibitions each season. MonET Museum Shop
The largest shop in Echigo-Tsumari specializing in Echigo-Tsumari Art Field products. We carry a wide selection of local specialties, including official logo products, artist-designed products, rice from the Rice Fields, and original-design sake and sweets. We also display and sell small artworks, such as paintings and sculptures, by participating artists. Take home a variety of “art” as a souvenir of your trip. At the farmers’ market, cheerfully run by local mothers, you’ll find seasonal local produce such as wild mountain vegetables and farm-fresh goods. The attached confectionery workshop offers a selection of handmade treats made with carefully selected ingredients, including “Anbu”—a traditional Tokamachi snack—vegetable-filled oyaki, and rice flour cakes.At the restaurant, you can enjoy dishes made with vegetables harvested from our own fields, as well as Kawanishi-grown Koshihikari rice and local buckwheat noodles. Senju Onsen: The Millennial Hot Spring
A relaxing hot spring resort where you can indulge in the luxury of natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source. The fragrant cypress bath and the pebble bath featuring natural stones from the Shinano River are particularly popular. The facility offers a variety of amenities, including open-air baths of different sizes and atmospheres, a sauna, and individual baths made of Shigaraki-yaki pottery.
