Irie Saya

Japan

A contemporary artist known as an “eraser crumbs sculptor,” as she creates three-dimensional works using eraser crumbs that are produced from erasing two-dimensional images. By deliberately erasing familiar imagery and reconfiguring it as sculptural forms in physical space, her work humorously addresses contemporary issues surrounding representation. She has held solo exhibitions at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, participated in the Setouchi Triennale, and undertaken a residency at ISCP in New York, actively showcasing her work both in Japan and internationally.
