About the artwork

For this project, the artist created and presented pieces of furniture to each family in Kotani Village according to their requests. The artist visited every house in the village during the previous year and took requests for the furniture they wanted. The furniture was made in a factory in rural Latvia, using the Art Nouveau style that once flourished in Europe under the influence of the introduction of Japanese culture. During the Triennial, the photographs of each family taken together with their piece of furniture were exhibited.
