About the artwork

Sculptures seem to float in an otherwise pitch black tunnel. All 23 pieces were created using charcoal made from wood collected in Echigo-Tsumari. The wood was first carved and then fired in a kiln. The pieces, transformed into charcoal, were then joined together to complete the sculptures. The spotlights, rather than showing the dark color of the pieces, emphasize their glittering particulate nature.
