The Kyororo, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2023, is currently holding a spring special exhibition, “Born and Died -The Story of Life-” through July 9 (Sun.). The exhibition features 23 original picture book drawings by Tateno Hiroshi, and introduces the drama of life and death of living creatures in satoyama, as well as the diverse connections among them, to deepen understanding of satoyama biodiversity.
<Artist Profile>
Born in Yokohama in 1968. Studied under the late Kumada Chikaho, a precision painter known as Japan’s Petit Fabre since childhood. Rooted in thorough observation of nature, she is a popular picture book author with her unique stories and drawings that precisely depict every single hair on insects’ bodies. His representative works include “Shide-mushi,” “Gifu-chou,” “Tsuchihanmyou,” “Garoa-mushi,” and many others. “Shide-mushi” was based on a research paper by former curator Kyororo, and “Gifu-chou” was drawn through his observations in Matsunoyama, Tokamachi City.
