Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2022: Details and new participating artists

It is only two months to the opening of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2022 and we are pleased to announce the details of the festival with the updated list of participating artists including Tanaka Min, Moriyama Mirai, and Makigami Koichi.


The details of the festival

【Duration】 145 days from Friday 29 April to Sunday 13 2022
※ Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (excluding Golden Week Holiday period)
【Opening hours】10:00 – 17:00 (10:00 – 16:00 in October and November)
※ Opening dates and hours may vary for different artworks
【Venue】 760㎢, Echigo-Tsumari Region (Tokamachi-city and Tsunan-town, Niigata Prefecture)

Participating artists: 262 individuals and groups of artists from 37 countries and regions (including new artworks created by 94 artists and groups form 13 countries and regions)

Number of artworks: 208 existing artworks plus 114 new artworks (including the pre-released artworks)

Passport for viewing artworks

The passport which supports the festival is valid for the duration of the festival and gives you an access to see artworks.

  • The passport will be sold at an early-bird price until 29 July 2022.
  • The passport will give you access to some artworks for up to three times.

・Early-bird price: Adult JPY3500, University, College, and Highschool students JPY2500, Free for children age under junior high school

【Terms and Conditions of usage】

・The Passport holder will be given special discount and services at designated stores and shops in the Echigo-Tsumari region

・A special discount is applied to the entry fee to Kiyotsukyo Tunnel for the Passport holder ※ Pre-booking is required during certain times throughout the year

・A special discount is applied to tickets to events for the Passport holder 

・Admission to artworks will be a half-price after the second visit by showing the Passport

※ The following facilities can be visited up to three times with the Passport. (The admission for the fourth visit onward will be half-price.)

【About the Passport】
・The Passport will be in paper format. There will be no digital version / e-Passport.
・The official app for a smartphone released in September 2021 can be used as a search engine and stamp rally for Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2022.

COVID-19 Safety Plan

In order to keep everyone safe including visitors, locals, and all the other people engaged with Echigo-Tsumari Art Field in this global pandemic era, we have set up “Guidelines for COVID-19 Safety Plan” to run the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2022.

We will set up the health-check spots across the region during Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2022 and check visitors’ body temperature, health conditions. Wearing a mask will be mandatory and after these checks are done visitors will be given a wristband which will be required to present when entering to artworks. Visitors will be asked to visit one of the health-check spots each day before entering the region for enjoying the festival. (Please note that a person with a body temperature of 37℃ and above will not be allowed into the festival.)

The wide range of guided tours

▶Official Guided Tours
A day-trip guided tours on a bus from and to Echigo-Yuzawa station including special lunch. Participants will be able to enjoy artworks with changing landscape of Echigo-Tsumari in different seasons.
【Price】JPY13,000 (including bus, lunch and guide fee) ※The Passport for viewing artworks will be required separately.
※The itinerary will change according to seasons throughout the duration of the festival.

▶ Special tours such as one guided by Fram Kitagawa, General Director or ones taking to featuring some artists and areas.

▶ Shuttle bus service by areas to help explore each area in half-a-day
Lunch nor guide are not included. Price, timetable and how to register will be announced on the official website in due course.
