Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1979. He continues to create artwork that re-captures familiar objects and casual natural phenomena to discover new relationships between things that are not usually connected. His video installation work “Playground Equipment Perspective” (’01) won the Grand Prix of the year at the NHK Digital Stadium. He has toured numerous exhibitions and artist festivals in Japan and abroad, including the Ars Electronica Festival. He has been active not only in museums but also in public spaces such as “Blinking Leaves” (’03), “Air People” (’07), and “Ship with Fasteners” (’10). Major solo exhibitions include “Neighborhood Earth” at Art Tower Mito (’14), “Garden of Beginnings” at the Hakone Open-Air Museum (’17), and “BLINKING” at the Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art in Israel (’21). Major international exhibitions include Seville Biennale 2008, Setouchi International Art Festival 2010, and the 4th Moscow Biennale. 2014 Mainichi Design Award.
