HARAGUCHI Noriyuki

Born in 1946 in Kanagawa. Graduated from Department of Fine Arts, Nihon University Collage of Art in 1970. Started artistic activities in 1966, he is one of the representing artists of “Mono-ha” and “Post Mono-ha”. He made a sensational debut internationally at documenta 6 in 1977 in Kassel, Germany through his artwork “Oil Pool” which filled steel bath with waste oil. Since then he has created subtle but robust artworks highlighting relations between human being and society under the theme of formativeness of matters. He has exhibited at major exhibitions and art festivals both outside and within Japan including “F-4 Phantom” at “Noriyuki Haraguchi: Society and Matter” at BankARTS 1929 Studio NYK, Kanagawa in 2009. Other major exhibitions are “(C) Overt: A Series of Exhibitions” P.S.1, New York (1988), “Kwangju Biennale” Kwangju, Korea (1997), “NORIYUKI HARAGUCHI” at Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, München (2001), and Kunst-Station Sankt Peter, Köln (2008).
