About the artwork

A special exhibition for Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2018, curated and presented by YATOO, a collective of “Nature Artists” in South Korea. YATOO means “through thought into nature” and YATOO artists create artworks taking inspirations from nature using mainly natural materials. The exhibition presents artworks by ten artists across the globe whose aspirations resonate with the concept that “beauty lies in the co-existence between human beings and nature”. Though their artworks, the exhibition introduces not only how the vitality of nature and the origin of human beings are bound up with each other, but also the evolution of “Nature Art” through the perspective of contemporary art. As each of the presenting artists uses their own materials and approaches, the exhibition will extend the boundary of Nature Art further.
