From late-April to early November, we will hold the Echigo-Tsumari Art Filed Year-Round Program 2026. From the budding spring, through deepening green, to the season when new rice tastes best. Echigo-Tsumari MonET Special Exhibition Vol.10 "Ryo Miyasaka: ART at 75"

Ryosaku Miyasaka has been presenting artworks connected to the earth ever since his mentor, the world-renowned artist Allan Kaprow, asked him during his student days about the origin of his creative work, to which he answered “Farmer.” While continuing his creative activities alongside farming in his hometown, this marks his first large-scale solo exhibition at the age of 75.Alongside early artworks including the “Map Paintings” (some previously unseen) and recent “Plant Characters,” new artworks created last year during rice planting and harvesting seasons in Echigo-Tsumari will be unveiled.

A Special Exhibition by Ayako Satsumoto, who creates three-dimensional artworks modeled after food and ingredients. The artist, who visualizes the connections and unexpected links between food and the society we live in, will present artworks inspired by Echigo-Tsumari’s local cuisine and preserved foods.

Restaurant Kamigo Clove Theatre

The theater restaurant project, ongoing since 2015. Local mothers and women of Tsunan present a cheerful, fun theatrical-style course meal each year, changing the theme annually.The cuisine features abundant locally sourced ingredients nurtured by the meltwater of heavy snowfall, such as salted rice balls made with Tsunan-grown Koshihikari rice, soup made with freshly picked corn, and roast pork made with Tsunan pork. These ingredients are prepared with gentle seasoning that brings out their natural flavors. Enjoy a unique experience delivered by local women, showcasing the food culture cultivated in this heavy snowfall region.

    Wild vegetables from heavy snow regions grow beneath the snow, making them mild and easy to eat with no bitterness or strong flavors. Using locally foraged fiddlehead ferns, butterbur shoots, mountain horseradish leaves, Japanese angelica root, dogtooth violets, bracken ferns, mountain garlic, and curved bamboo shoots, we offer tempura, simmered dishes, and tsukudani preserves. We also prepare char baked in foil seasoned with butterbur miso.We also offer original arrangements like bracken fern mixed with soy sauce berries and mayonnaise, and lotus root hamburg steak topped with wild garlic. Savor the bounty of the mountains, unique to these richly forested regions and only available in spring, paired with delicious Koshihikari rice grown in our stone-walled paddies.
