One of the unique experiences you can enjoy at Echigo-Tsumari is to stay at artworks and closed schools. “Australia House”,  “Dream House” by Marina Abramovic and  “Ubusuna House”, gallery and restaurant in an old minka house, are open on limited dates this autumn. Katakuri House located in Akiyamago, a renovation of wooden school building, opens for lunch or you can stay overnight as you follow beautiful autumn colours in this unexplored region. "Dream House" by Marina Abramovic: visit / stay

【Artwork viewing】

  • Opening dates and hours: 10:00 – 14:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays between Saturday 5 and Sunday 27 September
  • Admission: Adult JPY500 / Child age between 7 and 15 JPY250
  • No booking required

【Staying overnight】

  • Dates open for booking: Fri 2, Sat 3, Fri 9, Sun 10, Fri 16, Sat 17, Fri 23, Sat 24, Fri 30, Sat 31 October and Sun 1, Mon 2 November 2020
  • Staying withouth meals: JPY33,000 (including tax)
  • Booking can be made only for one group per night (maximum number of people staying is four)
  • Option: Breakfast can be pre-ordered at JPY500 per person
  • Booking is open from 0:00- on Sun 12 September 2020

Katakuri House: lunch / stay

Katakuri House is located in Akiyamago, one of the 100 unexplored regions of Japan. The wooden school building in the deep mountainous area has been renovated into an onsen accommodation and is popular for its exquisite culinary experience. We are open for lunch this autumn.

  • Open dates: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between Sat 10 october and Sun 1 November 2020
  • Hours: ①12:00- / ②12:30-
  • Price: Adult JPY3,300, Child age between 7 and 12 JPY1,650, Child before school age JPY1,100 (including tax)
    ※ Please pay on site / credit card accepted

Ubusuna House: lunch / stay

Ubusuna House opens for limited dates this autumn. Special lunch menu feature new rice harvested from the local terraced rice field with two options – Tsumari Pork (JPY1700) or autumn vegetables (JPY1500). You may also like to stop by for a cup of coffee and sweets.

  • Open dates: Saturdays and Sundays between Sat 10 October and Sun 1 November 2020
  • Opening hours:
    Viewing artworks / cafe 10:00-16:00
    Lunch 11:00-14:00
  • Price: Lunch JPY1500 (vegetables) / JPY1700 (pork) separate admission is required to see artworks.
    Viewing artworks: Adult JPY500 / Child age between 7 and 15 JPY250 (Autumn Special Ticket holder has access once during the autumn program)

"Australia House" by Andrew Burns Architect : stay

Located in the Urada village in Matsunoyama area, Australia House was built in 2012 as a platform to foster exchange between Japan and Australia. Artists, curators and students have stayed in the house and created and presented their artworks while local people have discovered the diverse cultures existing within Australia. We are pleased to invite the general public to experience staying in this distinctive cultural facility.

  • Open dates: From 10 to 31 October 2020
  • Price per night: Usage of the facility JPY12000 + Adult JPY3000, Children JPY1500, Children before school age JPY1000
  • Breakfast / Dinner : Only without meals
  • Booking :  Please make a reservation at least 7 days before your stay.
