Born in 1977 in Szczecin in Poland. Currently based in both Warsaw and Paris. Murkel studied at Christian Boltanski’s multimedia atelier in 2003 and graduated from Beaux-Arts de Paris. Artworks created in earlier time were presented in major art institutions in France including “I still believe in a miracle” at MAM Paris and “J’en rêve” at Fondation Cartier Pour l’art contemporain in 2005. Murkel started to create plastic works which combined video installation and wax sculpture and her works have been presented at art centres and museums around the globe including Shanghai, Buenos Aires, Warsaw and New York. Murkel’s recent works focus on the relation between science and fiction and a video installation resembles a myth close to science fiction. Murkel’s artistic exploration and on-going interest is rooted to lost, unknown or dangerous place such as Chernobyl region, Fukushima-city and Naica cave in Mexico.
