Echigo-Matsunoyama Museum of Natural Science “Kyororo”
Located in the heavy snowfall region of Matsunoyama and surrounded by nature, this museum focuses on the natural sciences. One of its highlights is the unique building designed to withstand the weight of snow. Inside, visitors can learn in an engaging way about the wildlife inhabiting the local woodlands and the natural environment of this snowy region, while the surrounding area offers opportunities for wildlife observation and hands-on nature experiences. The museum’s nickname, “Kyoro-ro,” comes from the call of the red-crowned crane, a bird that migrates to Matsunoyama. It is a popular spot where families can explore the wonders of nature together through play.

NUNAGAWA Campus
This art facility is housed in a former elementary school. It reopened in 2024 as the “Children’s Five Senses Art Museum,” where visitors can experience artworks not only by looking at them but also by touching and listening to them. The museum features works created using materials such as clay and trees, designed to spark children’s curiosity. Through workshops, parents and children can explore artists’ techniques and discover the joy of creating together. It’s a great spot for families to engage with art using all five senses.

Matsudai NOHBUTAI
This buffet features an abundance of locally grown rice from the Rice Fields and fresh vegetables. With a selection of about 20 dishes based on regional and home-style cuisine, there’s something for everyone—adults and children alike. After enjoying some art or taking a stroll through the countryside, we invite families to relax and savor the seasonal flavors of Echigo-Tsumari.
Matsudai NOHBUTAI Field Museum
This popular spot features approximately 40 artworks dotted along a 2-kilometer stretch of rural woodland stretching from Matsudai NOHBUTAI to Matsudai Castle. Visitors can enjoy a stroll through nature while taking in the art, and the area also offers a wide range of seasonal hands-on programs, such as rice planting, rice harvesting, and snow play. The on-site cafeteria serves meals made with local ingredients. It’s a place where families can fully enjoy art, nature, and rural life together.

Hachi & Seizo Tashima Museum of Picture Book Art
Inside the facility, you’ll find classrooms where you can enjoy hands-on activities, as well as a café and a shop. Outside, a family of goats lives in the grounds. On sunny days, you can explore the nature area to spot wildlife, and the center also hosts workshops for families and seasonal events. It’s a great spot to experience nature and local culture while having fun.

Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET
This contemporary art museum features a magical space that makes use of water and light. Inside, you’ll find interactive artworks you can walk through and experience firsthand, allowing families to enjoy the thrill of discovery together as they ask, “What is this?” and “How does it work?” The building itself is also a highlight. It’s a place where families can spend time together, letting their imaginations run wild through art.
Akashi Hot Springs
After a day of fun, it’s time for a family soak in the hot springs! Relax in the spacious baths and soothe the fatigue from exploring art exhibitions and strolling through the rural countryside. The same building also houses the Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET, a café, and a shop, making it a spot the whole family can enjoy.
