Banana Trial【Climinal Law Article 877】That was a penalty given by human to animals Animal folklore presented by puppet show and animation

When animals were still living like humans, three monkeys were put to a trial for stealing bananas. Judges are humans, beasts taking a neutral position and animals who have no consciousness of sin. A strange trial is about to begin…. The performance will be followed by a workshop.

SUKIMAKI ANIMATION: screening and workshop

Screening of “Yukiwo mita yamanae” and “Karasu no namida” which won the Bunkacho Media Festival New Talent Award followed by a workshop of creating animation.

"Azamihira theatre festival & bon-odori" at The Day After Tomorrow Newspaper Cultural Department"

The local summer festival, bon-odori in Azamihira village has been running in partnership with the Day After Tomorrow Newspaper Cultural Department since summer in 2003. People can enjoy “Gorogoro Azamihira” during the daytime while joining the theatre festival and dancing in the evening.

"Hachi no Osenaka Odori" at Museum of Picture Book Art

Bon-odori in Hachi village is something people now look forward to as one of the regular events in summer at the Museum of Picture Book Art. Join Shizzle Ohtaka to dance to music.

Splish-Splash Fair

Splish and splash in the pond with artwork by Leandro Elrich. Join workshop to create art using water or parachute, trying standing paddle boat or taste sweets from yatai. Look for the famous mole in the underground studio!

Summer version of the official guided tours to follow the history and journey that ETAT has taken since its first festival in 2000.

Dates: Sunday 11, Tuesday 13, Thursday 15 and Saturday 17 August 2019
This Part 1 is suited to the family with young kids as it takes you through the satoyama landscape while stopping over at popular artworks including Kiyotsukyo Tunnel.


≫ETAT Playback Tour Part2 2000-2009
Dates: Saturday 10, Monday 12, Wednesday 14, Friday 16 and Sunday 18 August 2019
This Part 2 takes participants to masterpieces of ETAT including “The Last Class” by Christian Boltanski, “House Memory” by Chiharu Shiota”, both presenting the large scale solo retrospective shows in Tokyo.

Visit artworks which have been standing in the region for long time, overwatching villages and locals by bus and on foot.
