Artist Profile

Kinukawa Yasunori
He creates lithographs by cutting and polishing domestically sourced natural limestone. By depicting the landscapes of the collection sites and the flora and fauna that inhabit them, the relationship between image and material undergoes repeated cycles of iteration and amplification within the artist himself. Two perspectives—the landscape the stone would have witnessed and the landscape he encountered while searching for the stone—are superimposed upon the stone’s surface. He also visualizes the process of collecting limestone through video works.Recent major exhibitions include “KOMPAS” (Zebra Culture, Ghent, Belgium, 2023), “Flickering Creatures” (Kyoto Seika University Gallery Terra-S, Kyoto, 2021), “Pebble Lithographs” (MATSUO MEGUMI +VOICE GALLERY pfs/w, Kyoto, 2021),and “2nd International Biennale of Lithography” (Stari grad, Belgrade, Serbia, 2021). She will participate in the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2024.”
