[NUNAGAWA Campus] Ayumi Tsuchiya’s “Spinning Xylophone Craft” Workshop

Summary

We are hosting a xylophone workshop led by Ayumi Tsuchiya, the artist behind the artworks *Circle of Song* and *Path of Sound*, currently on display at the NUNAGAWA Campus.

We will create xylophones by cutting round wooden rods to form musical scales. You’ll assemble them with string, roll them up for storage, and when unfolded, they’re ready to play—or hang them on the wall as a tapestry. Create your own unique design and take it home with you.

Artist Profile

After working in the corporate sector, he enrolled in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tama Art University, where he studied spatial design.In 2012, he graduated at the top of his class from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tama Art University. Working under the concept of “See, Touch, Hear,” he creates handmade artworks entirely by himself using self-taught woodworking techniques. In addition to exhibiting at art museums, science museums, and art events, he has also collaborated with companies such as MUJI, Karimoku, Benesse, and Tokyo Disney Resort. He received a Merit Award at The One Show (New York), one of the world’s three major advertising awards.

NUNAGAWA Campus

Nunagawa Elementary School, which closed in March 2014, has been reborn as a school where students can learn about the value of their local community through hands-on experiences.With agriculture as its foundation, the center provides a space to help each individual discover their unique strengths through food, daily life, play, and dance. It also serves as the “Children’s Five Senses Art Museum,” offering art experiences that engage the whole body—beyond just “seeing”—and is the home ground of “FC Echigo-Tsumari,” an agricultural professional soccer team where female players from the city have relocated to become stewards of the Rice Fields and continue playing soccer.
