"Still Life Objects" at Hong Kong House

The artist felt the need of actions and activities which would help calm mind and forget sorrow during this unprecedented pandemic. In this exhibition, they show the rituals for calming mind by three old people in Hong Kong. Attending trials, for example, is such a ritual for one of them and he keeps the distinctive colourful tickets at home. The exhibition features these objects that are the motif of their respective rituals, hoping to prompt viewers to remember something that would help them continue on the journey of seeking for their own place for peace of mind.

China House Project at NUNAGAWA Campus

Under the theme “Memory of Wind” in summer and “Journey of Time” in autumn, China House continues to bridge Japan and China through art beyond time and space. For this autumn, the selected five young and upcoming Chinese artists with different backgrounds show their works that reflect upon thoughts about life. In addition to their works, China House also hosts the exhibition of the art project for children called OPEN WINDOW.

Shimizu Museum / "Art Fragment Collection" + Echigo-Tsumari Art Library (tbc)

In addition to “Art Fragrment Collection” for ETAT2018 by KAWAMATA Tadashi + edition nord, Shimizu Museum continues to present the book collections of NAKAHARA Yusuke, the art critic, and KITAGAWA Fram, ETAT General Director as well as the part of the archives of the previous festivals. The museum attempts to shed lights on the unseen layers of the time accumulated by the festival through these ramains of artworks, drawings, operational documents of the festivals as well as the book collections of the art critic and director.

"Real Peacefulness" at Gallery Yuyama

The artist makes reference to something that are close to her as well as that are more social such as history and politics and creates artworks that travels time from past, present to the future. They are somewhat humorous and filled with irony at the same time, provoking diverse interpretations by viewers.

Yukihisa Isobe Memorial Echigo-Tsumari Kiyotsu Soko Museum of Art[SoKo]

The museum was opened in 2015 with a renovation of the gym space in the closed Kiyotsukyo Elementary School for pursuing the idea of “exhibiting artworks while storing them”. Since then, the museum hosts and presents shows the large collections of artwork by ISOBE Yukihisa, one of the prominent artists participating in Echigo-Tsumari.

"The Last Class" by Christian Boltanski and Jean Kalman

“The Last Class” which transformed the entire colsed elementary school into the artwork opens on Saturdays and Sundays until 1 November 2020. The sound of heat fills the school which was given a new life by the artist while you can see “cheerful friends” dancing in the upper floor near the entrance.


"Gejo Thatch Tower" by MIKAN + Sogabe Lab. Kanagawa University

The 11m-tall thatched tower standing in front of Gejo Station on JR Iiyama Line holds pre-loved old tools contributed by local villagers. Gejo area is flourished with rice production and was once the centre of thatched-roof craftman. The tower has become the landmark of the community where people get togather and sometimes even host singing performances.
