Museum of Picture Book Art and Wooden Fruit Art: Fall Special Exhibition “An Exhibition of Books That Even Nobuo Onishi and Tashima Seizo Are Surprised By”

This fall, Kosei Publishing is scheduled to release a visual book introducing “Tashima Seizo Today.” To coincide with the book’s release, this museum will exhibit recent artworks by Tashima—who has remained at the forefront of the art world for over 60 years—as well as photographs taken by Onishi that capture him at work and in his everyday life.In conjunction with this, we will also hold a photo exhibition featuring Onishi’s picture books *The Season Dyed in Thread* (Iwasaki Shoten) and *Japanese Candles: Connecting People* (Alice-kan), which chronicle the lives of plant-dyeing textile artists in Tokamachi city.

"Aura of Life" Workshop ~Let's Listen to the Voices of the Creatures in Our Hachi~ [Living Creatures Observation Workshop 2026]

The “Hachi & Seizo Tashima Museum of Picture Book Art” embodies an art space designed to empower all living things, conceived by artist Seizo Tashima as a “Museum Where Living Things Emit an Aura.” This is the second installment of the “Aura of Life” workshop series, where participants listen to the voices of the creatures in Hachi’s works.We’ll be joined by biotope expert Hiroyuki Terada (KOKOPELLI+) to observe the many living creatures that call the museum home.

Waterside ENNICHI in MonET

This is a hands-on exhibition that offers fun for everyone from children to adults. Visitors can admire artworks floating on the pond, and a festival is held in the community space on weekends. The corridors feature interactive installations such as a maze, while artworks that respond to sound and the breeze add color to the space. At night, the illuminated displays create a different atmosphere from that of the daytime. Additionally, workshops led by participating artists are scheduled to take place.

NUNAGAWA Campus Special Exhibition: Ayako Fudamoto, “Sponge to Salmon (Nunagawa)”

We are hosting a Special Exhibition at the NUNAGAWA Campus featuring Ayako Fudamoto, an artist known for her three-dimensional artworks modeled after food and ingredients. An artist who visualizes the intersections and unexpected connections between food and the society in which we live, Fudamoto will present artworks inspired by the local cuisine of Echigo-Tsumari.

Hong Kong House 2026 Special Exhibition

[Hong Kong House 2026 Special Exhibition] Toby Crispy & Mire Yu, “艹田人 STiTCH OUR iNNER LAND”

At the 2026 Hong Kong House Special Exhibition, we will present artworks inspired by upcycled clothing, created by piecing together vintage fabrics embroidered with “memories of the community we want to preserve” by residents of Hong Kong and Tsunan.

[Saturday, September 5] MonET Waterfront Night Market

Starting with kajii’s instrument-making workshops and performances, the museum will feature interactive artwork and remain open late into the night for a special evening event. Starting in the evening, food stalls will set up, adding a lively atmosphere to the museum. It’s a one-day-only special nighttime festival.

[Akeyama] A Gathering to Discuss the Future of Folk Crafts While Reading the Writings of Shuichi Takizawa

Shuichi Takizawa, a folklorist from Tsunan town, left behind numerous writings on folklore and traditional folk tools. We will hold a gathering where we will read these writings together with his daughter, Yumiko Takizawa, and discuss the future of traditional folk tools.

[Running on September 13 and October 25] JIKU #013 HOKUHOKU-LINE

"JIKU" is a series of projects that uses light to express the regional axes—as well as the axes of Point of View and history—that have been obscured by urban development and changes in the landscape.This artwork is set at Misashima Station on the Hokuetsu Express Hokuhoku Line. Using the tracks of the Hokuhoku Line—which has fostered new connections within the region since its opening in 1997—the artwork expresses the value and energy of connecting one place to another. Lighting installations positioned at the front and rear of a special train illuminate the straight tunnel in sync with sound. This is an experiential artwork that can only be viewed by passengers aboard the special train.

Eat and Buy New Rice—Enjoy the Bounties of the Autumn Countryside

[Sept. 19–Nov. 30] Echigo-Tsumari New Rice Fair

To celebrate the arrival of this year’s new rice season, we’re hosting “New Rice Fairs” at various venues throughout Echigo-Tsumari. Whether it’s a lunch featuring freshly cooked new rice, rice balls, shopping for new rice and side dishes to go with it, or workshops where you can enjoy the autumn countryside, we invite you to savor this year’s rice at each location. We’ll also be distributing leaflets at each venue that feature interviews with farmers from Echigo-Tsumari, highlighting both the joys and challenges of farming.

[September 27] Rice Harvest Event at the Ketto Stone-Walled Rice Fields

To the north of the Ketto settlement in Akiyamago, Tsunan town, lie the beautiful stone-walled terraced Rice Fields known as “Ketto no Ishigakida.” These Rice Fields have been selected as one of the “100 Best Rural Landscapes in Japan,” and as part of efforts to preserve this nationally significant landscape, a rice harvest event will be held.

Ayumi Tsuchiya, *Circle Song* and *The Path of Sound*

A special exhibition of Ayumi Tsuchiya’s artworks *Circle Song* and *Path of Sound*—in which wooden balls are rolled across a xylophone to create music—is being held at the NUNAGAWA Campus!

Summer Mystery-Solving Field Museum Notebook 2026
— Discover the Mysteries of the Satoyama Through Art —

Visit the artworks and stamp stations scattered throughout the Field Museum and solve the puzzles using keywords related to the satoyama landscape! As you stroll, you’ll encounter artworks by artists from around the world, as well as The Rice Fields, forests, and the insects and flowers that live there.

Tetsuro Kano: Infinite and Finite Stacks / Flexible Stacking

Collecting and stacking natural objects such as stones and trees. This is a form of play, a form of marking, and a primal act of creation that has, at times, supported religious beliefs. Through this workshop, let’s reawaken our “wild” sense of texture and form.

[Akeya] Inoue Yui, “Yamanokuchi Club,” 2026

Inoue Yui’s “Mountains are where it all begins” project in Akayama gathers and utilizes natural materials from the mountains—which have long been cherished in the Akayama region—to carry out various activities aimed at the REBIRTH of local customs.

Kitagawa Fram School: A Cross-Disciplinary Approach to Art Festivals—59th Edition: Screening and Talk on Ukrainian Films “Letter to a Turtle Dove” and “Gray Land” Guest: Dana Kaverina

For this edition of the Kitagawa Fram School, we are pleased to welcome Ukrainian filmmaker and artist Dana Kaverina, who will be visiting Japan for the first time in September 2026. During her visit, Ms. Kaverina plans to screen several of her artworks—including her latest work, *Gray Land*, which focuses on the war in Ukraine—in various locations, and she will be staying at “Noto Suzu House,” a residency facility established in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, an area affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
